The Original Bowen Body Work™

Relaxing body work to repair injuries, resolve pain, and soothe stiff muscles and joints

What is Bowen Bodywork?

Bowen Body Work™ is an alternative, holistic body technique that applies gentle pressure to the soft, connective tissues (fascia) of the body, as well as muscles, tendons and ligaments. Bowen Body therapy promotes natural healing and addresses the root of your discomfort, not just the symptoms. The Bowen technique can provide relief for both acute and chronic pain, as well as musculoskeletal, digestive, respiratory and neuromuscular conditions.

Is Bowenwork right for me?

Perhaps you’ve tried it all: massage, chiropractic, physical therapy and acupuncture. How do you know Bowen bodywork can help your condition?

Bowen is safe for all ages and conditions. Every person responds differently to Bowen, as your body’s rate of repair and ability to heal are unique to you. However, Bowenwork is a holistic model of care that treats the entire body, so results aren’t always felt immediately after the session. Rather, you’ll likely experience relief once your body has commenced the healing process (generally after a few days or a few treatments). You may even see improvements in conditions you didn’t even mention!

Frequently Asked Questions

Bowenwork consists of a sequence of gentle, non-invasive rolling moves of varying pressure at specific sites on the body to stimulate tissue and nerve pathways. Registered Bowen therapists use gentle, cross-fiber techniques to massage muscles, tendons and ligaments without forceful pressure. Throughout the session, the therapist will pause briefly and often to help your soft tissues reset naturally and allow your body to heal. Treatment is generally quite relaxing and peaceful, lasting 30 minutes to an hour.

Many patients see a dramatic reduction of symptoms after the first session. By the second or third session, most find that their symptoms are dramatically reduced or completely gone.

Like many other forms of body therapy, Bowen generally works best when performed in a series of treatments. However, some may find relief after just one treatment. Once you’ve achieved your desired level of healing and comfort, it is best to maintain health and wellness with monthly sessions.

If you have chronic pain or repeated injury, you may require additional treatments or find that Bowen isn’t the best option. If your symptoms do not resolve, we always recommend you consult your physician.

Yes, but there are certain restrictions that may apply. You may be asked to delay this treatment or another to allow your body to heal. Please ask us how we can tailor the session and scheduling to suit your needs.

We hold therapy treatments in a calm, private room with a massage bed within our wellness center.

Bowen techniques are performed over the clothes. Thin or light clothing is best so our Bowen therapist can manipulate your soft-tissues.
